In a medium saucepan over medium heat, place the water, vegetable or chicken broth, milk, and salt. Stir to combine.

Once the liquid heats to a scald (about 7 minutes), add the cornmeal and cover the pot.

Allow the grits to cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes.

Lower the heat and add the fresh corn kernels, butter, black pepper and shredded cheese. Cook another 5-10 minutes. Season to taste.

Garnish with fresh herbs and/or chopped scallions. Serve and enjoy!

Notes:
- Sharp cheddar, Parmesan or Gloucester cheese are great options.
- Herbs such as dill, parsley, cilantro, or scallions work well here.
