It’s the flavor of childhood: no matter which Pop Tart flavor was your favorite, there’s no question you enjoyed a toaster pastry as a quick breakfast or a special after-school snack.

That means, of course, that opinions about the best Pop Tart flavors are heated. We’ve all got our go-to flavors. But which Pop Tart flavors are the most popular? And even the most underrated?

To get to the bottom of this breakfast food debate, we’ve ranked the flavors from least to most tasty based on concept and popular reception — but remember, your own tastes might not be like anyone else’s.

So, join us for the ride, but take this list of 25 Pop Tart flavors ranked with a grain of salt. Or maybe, in this case, a grain of sugar.

How Many Pop Tart Flavors Are There?

So how many Pop Tart flavors are there, anyway? There are 25, with several of those flavors being new releases, plus a few limited-edition flavors. And that number doesn’t include special products like Pop Tarts Bites, which are their own things entirely.

That said, the lineup is always changing. Seasonal flavors and limited editions are always debuting, and this list only reflects what’s available right now. Pop Tart flavors are also regularly discontinued, so it’s always worth trying a new flavor soon after it debuts in case it doesn’t end up sticking around for long.

What Was the First Pop Tart Flavor?

Pop Tarts were introduced in 1964 with a lineup of flavors that looks modest compared to today’s. The first Pop Tart flavors to hit the market back then were blueberry, brown sugar, strawberry and apple currant — all of them unfrosted (a frosting that wouldn’t melt off in the toaster wasn't developed until 1967).

Although three of these original flavors are similar to ones that still exist today, the original Pop Tart didn’t look anything like the modern-day version. The pastry was a little more pie-crust-esque than the flaky present-day stuff, and, of course, they weren’t iced yet. Plus, the original toaster pastries contained real fruit, something that definitely isn’t true anymore.

Oh, and a fun fact about the least-known of the four original Pop Tart flavors: if you have no clue what a currant is, you’re not alone. Kellogg’s acknowledges in a tongue-in-cheek Pop Tart history that the apple-currant flavor was dropped partly because, according to them, “no one has ever seen a currant.”

The 25 Best Pop Tarts Flavors Ranked From Least Popular To Most

25. Frosted Banana Bread

One of the newest Pop Tart flavors is a bit of a polarizing one. And it’s not hard to see why: banana is not only an overwhelming flavor but a really hard one to get right. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that fans are divided on the merits of this flavor of Pop Tarts.

Of course, there is a chance that a die-hard banana lover would pick this as their favorite Pop Tart flavor. It’s supposed to mimic the muted blend of banana and spice of a fresh-baked loaf of banana bread, and if you love banana bread, that probably sounds like an appealing concept.

But for many fans, the synthetic taste of the banana flavoring is a letdown. Frosted Banana Bread is a Pop Tart flavor match made in heaven for someone — just not most of the fans who’ve tried it.

24. Apple Jacks Frosted Apple Cinnamon

This is another newly-released Pop Tart flavor, marrying the toaster pastry with a beloved breakfast classic. And there’s good news: although Apple Jacks Frosted Apple Cinnamon isn’t most people’s favorite flavor, there is a huge jump in flavor and popularity between the last-place flavor and its runner-up.

The best part of this Pop Tart flavor is its resemblance to the cereal it’s inspired by. The apple-cinnamon flavor comes through loud and clear, and it’ll make your kitchen smell amazing while it’s toasting.

Although many wish it were a little heavier on the apple, it’s a pleasant snack experience that probably won’t leave you wishing you’d picked a different flavor. That we’ve already made a stride this big by the second item on this list speaks volumes.

From here on out, there’s something good to say about every Pop Tart flavor we’re going to profile — this is just one of the ones that stood out a little less.

23. Frosted Wild Berry

If you saw the TikTok food trend last year around McDonald’s Grimace Shake, you would be forgiven for wondering if this Pop Tart flavor was some kind of tie-in. It is just as shockingly purple and advertises almost exactly the same vaguely berry-ish flavor.

While not connected to that popular drink, that’s exactly what you get: a vaguely berry-ish flavor. The filling of this one is a composite of other berries that are perfectly pleasant when combined but stand out much more on their own.

So, is this going to knock you out cold like the Grimace Shake purportedly did, according to sources like Forbes? No. You’ll likely have a lovely snack and forget all about it until you find the box again in the back of your cabinet. However, if you're a fan of berries at breakfast, it's worth a try to form your own opinion.

22. Frosted Strawberry Milkshake

Many of the Pop Tart flavors that debut to the least critical acclaim are the most ambitious. Sadly, turning the complex flavor profile of a popular dessert into a mass-produced toaster pastry is pretty hard.

Plus, it’s a little difficult to improve on perfection, and too many people grew up on the classic Frosted Strawberry for a competitor to have an easy time unseating it from the top spot.

But worry not: this Pop Tart flavor has its ardent fans. Many find the creamy, thick filling incredibly unique, and these Pop Tarts are even better if you put them in the freezer for a few hours before eating. Although this kind of defeats the purpose of toasting.

This is a rare Pop Tart flavor that’s great frozen but falls a little flat when toasted. And it’s definitely not the one for you if you’re afraid of a little Red 40. But for a truly unique Pop Tarts experience, a frozen Strawberry Milkshake is a solid bet.

21. Frosted Chocolate Chip

This is a slight departure from the Pop Tart mold. Its exterior tastes more like a hard chocolate chip cookie than the flaky Pop Tart exterior we’re used to, which makes this Pop Tart flavor very unique. But it’s not consistently ranked as one of the top Pop Tart flavors for chocolate aficionados.

Why? It’s hard to say because no one’s really complaining about it. This Pop Tart flavor is well-balanced, doesn’t try anything too crazy and has a pleasant chocolate-chip-cookie vibe. But it’s not a standout, hence its relatively low rank.

This isn’t one to avoid on the grocery store shelves. It’s near-universally at least somewhat appealing (does anyone hate chocolate chip cookies?), and it won’t offend. But it might not inspire, either.

20. Frosted Grape

You could go one of two ways with grape. The first is the stuff of childhood PB&J dreams. The second is more reminiscent of childhood flu medicine. And happily for us all, this Frosted Grape Pop Tart flavor is the former. This is grape jelly that practically begs for its peanut butter partner.

That said, it’s not the strongest of the classic fruity Pop Tart flavors. Grape’s mild flavor naturally lacks the punch of strawberry, raspberry or cherry, leading to an intensely sweet filling that doesn’t have quite as much appeal as some of the alternatives.

Still, this is solid stuff: a breakfast pastry that you’ll enjoy even if you don’t run out to buy another case of it. It’s hard to go wrong with even the weakest of the fruit-based Pop Tart flavors.

19. Frosted Hot Fudge Sundae

Oh, boy, is the jury out on this one. Some people claim that Frosted Hot Fudge Sundae is the best Pop Tart flavor out there, bar none. Others just don’t get it. And when a flavor is that polarizing, it’s going to be a struggle for it to climb the rankings.

We think it’s a winner, though. The creamy vanilla filling is a great moderating influence on the rich chocolate exterior, and it makes a tasty frozen treat (it’s based on an ice cream sundae — of course it does!)

So, would we rate this Pop Tart flavor quite a bit higher if not for popular consensus? For sure. And if you enjoy chocolate, you’ll likely agree. But do keep in mind that many fans who try it are underwhelmed.

18. Unfrosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon

Recently, Kellogg’s has rereleased some classic vintage Pop Tart flavors, and you can’t get more vintage than one of the original four flavors. So why is such a beloved flavor ranked so low? Well, honestly, because it’s not frosted.

Some people absolutely love the unfrosted Pop Tarts because they’re less sweet than the frosted ones, allowing the filling to shine. Others open an unfrosted Pop Tart and think the same thing we all do when we see a dog that isn’t wearing a collar: Hey, why’s it naked?

So, unfortunately, the patronage of a loyal few isn’t enough to boost this unfrosted throwback higher up on the list. Just know that if you love the frosted version of this Pop Tart flavor, there’s really not that much of a difference.

17. Frosted Cookies and Crème

This is basically a giant Oreo cookie. That’s the concept, and whether or not it sticks the landing, there’s pretty much no way you can go too wrong with it. Shoot for the Oreo — even if you miss, you’ll land among the middle-ranked Pop Tart flavors that aren’t amazing but still taste pretty great.

So what keeps this one from securing a higher spot? Really, it just doesn’t have that bite to it that you want. Much like the Hot Fudge flavor we covered already, it’s a pleasant chocolate-vanilla hybrid, but the flavor isn't going to jump out at you.

16. Frosted Chocolatey Chip Pancake

This is another of those ambitious Pop Tart flavors you might have mixed feelings about. On the positive side, it’s a thicker, chewier Pop Tart than most, mimicing a pancake both in its texture and in the hint of maple flavor in the frosting. On the negative side, the maple flavor is pretty faint, and if you’re looking for a crunchier pastry, this one won’t do it for you.

But whether you like it or not, you can’t deny that this is one of the most breakfast-y Pop Tart flavors out there. Some flavors really don’t sound like great breakfast food ideas, but Chocolatey Chip Pancake is as morning-friendly as Pop Tarts get.

15. Unfrosted Blueberry

And we’re back to the icing-less Pop Tart flavors. Blueberry edges out Brown Sugar Cinnamon because its filling stands better on its own, but you may still find yourself missing the icing at the end of the day.

Is this really all that different than the beloved iced classic? No. Is it still somehow a completely different vibe? Unfortunately, yes.

14. Unfrosted Strawberry

The strongest unfrosted flavor, but you’re still likely to end up pining for the iced version that is almost without question the king of Pop Tart flavors. Going up against a classic is just never going to go well, even if two-thirds of the components are still there.

Honestly, though? Unfrosted Pop Tarts have their audience. It’s worth a try to find out if you’re in it.

13. Frosted Confetti Cupcake

Birthday cake is always a controversial flavor. Even if you do enjoy it, will it ever taste quite like the real thing? Not often. So Frosted Confetti Cupcake scores points for giving us a pretty solid imitation of a cupcake in Pop Tart form — most fans agree it tastes quite a bit like the real thing.

Whether you toast ‘em or freeze ‘em, these Pop Tarts are a surprising hit. That said, this Pop Tart flavor is sweet — and we mean sweet sweet. If that kind of sugar rush isn’t appetizing to you, this is probably not going to be a flavor that you enjoy.

12. Frosted Cinnamon Roll

This is another newer release that could grow into one of the top Pop Tart flavors out there if it sticks around. With the cinnamon filling and icing we all know and love, it’ll make your kitchen smell absolutely amazing — and it’s an impressively good imitation of a fresh-baked cinnamon bun. It’s only because the last half of this list is so neck-and-neck that this Pop Tart flavor doesn’t crack the top 10 Pop Tarts flavors.

11. Frosted Blueberry Lemon Crumble

This is where the list gets tight. This relatively new Pop Tart flavor may be ranked pretty solidly around the middle, but that’s only because it’s so new. It hasn’t stood the test of time or really even been the subject of a fan consensus yet. But what we know is pretty great.

We already know that blueberry is a flavor Pop Tarts do well, and the addition of lemon adds a sour punch to that flavor that really enhances it. The result is a flaky, tangy Pop Tart reminiscent of blueberry pie. Hopefully, this is a new flavor that’ll stick around because it has the potential to garner a huge fanbase if it stands the test of time.

10. Snickerdoodle

Brown sugar-based Pop Tart flavors can be hit-or-miss, and this one hits. Unlike other, similar flavors, it has a hefty note of vanilla, which makes it taste a little fuller and more like the cookie that inspired it.

Cinnamon adds a warm note that keeps the Pop Tart from tasting cloyingly sweet. While the OG Brown Sugar Cinnamon is probably the best pick if you want an introduction to brown sugar Pop Tart fillings, this one is not far behind.

9. Frosted Cherry

Lovers of cherry cheesecake or cherry pie will no doubt rank this among the best Pop Tart flavors because that is exactly what it is. Cherry’s strong flavor makes for a bold and robust filling, and it toasts up perfectly.

While it might not get the same accolades as some of the better-known fruit flavors, Frosted Cherry is never going to be too far outside of the top ranks. That said, if you don’t enjoy the aforementioned cherry desserts, you may not like this one. It definitely has that artificial cherry taste, so keep that in mind.

8. Frosted Chocolate Fudge

This is about the highest you’ll see a chocolate Pop Tart flavor ranking on this list, and there’s a good reason for that. This is no chemically-tasting chocolate cream or half-baked Nutella imitation: no, this here is sticky, chewy and glorious fudge.

Is it more chocolate than you ever, ever need to be consuming for breakfast? You bet it is. But if you’re going to go for a morning sugar rush already, why would you not choose the finest of Pop Tart flavors to do it with?

7. Frosted Sugar Cookie No-Chill Pop Tarts

This seasonal flavor debuted in the winter of 2025 to widespread excitement. Sugar Cookie was a beloved Pop Tart flavor for years before being discontinued in 2023, so fans are elated that it’s back.

Although it’s only for a limited time, this is bound to be one of the most popular Pop Tart flavors while it lasts. It mimics the chewy texture of a sugar cookie beautifully and its crowd-pleasing flavor is pretty hard not to like.

6. Frosted Brown Sugar Cinnamon

If you’ve only eaten one Pop Tart flavor, there’s a pretty good chance it was this one. And what more is there to say about it? It’s one of the oldest flavors in the Pop Tart lineup and a classic.

Sugar and spice and everything nice converge in a flaky pastry — there’s not much more that you could ask for. While it’s edged out just a little by a few fruity flavors, this Pop Tart flavor is hard to top.

5. Frosted Blueberry

Frosted Blueberry is a beloved Pop Tart flavor that isn’t going anywhere. There’s little to say about this one that hasn’t already been said.

It’s enough to know that it’s been refined over the course of the brand’s history into something we’d all miss if it were gone. Is blueberry everyone’s favorite? No, it’s not. But there’s no arguing with its towering reputation.

4. Frosted S’Mores

Only fourth, you say?  Before you start brandishing your pitchforks, allow us to explain. Yes, Frosted S’Mores is an absolutely iconic Pop Tart flavor. Yes, we love the taste of chocolate-marshmallow filling enrobed in flaky chocolate pastry as much as you do. But there are a few that just barely top it, including one limited-edition flavor that beats Frosted S’Mores at its own game.

3. Frosted Raspberry

Let’s be real: There was no way any fruit flavor was beating out strawberry. But this is a closer race than all you resting-on-your-laurels Frosted Strawberry fans might want to believe.

Frosted Raspberry’s filling has a zingy bite to it that’s unique among Pop Tarts flavors: there’s nothing else like it. Even though it’s weirdly underrated, we would be remiss to place this Pop Tart flavor any lower. Even third is a stretch. But you know the rules of the game, and…

2. Frosted Strawberry

…Frosted Strawberry was absolutely never going to lose. Sorry, guys. We know you were pulling for whatever sleeper hit Pop Tart flavor you love most. But in the end, this is the Pop Tart most people imagine: sweet but tangy strawberry, crunchy pastry and a glossy coat of icing.

It’s the quintessential Pop Tart, the one you popped in the toaster before Saturday morning cartoons started up. Its place in our cultural lexicon alone merits that top spot. And we guess it tastes pretty good, too!

1. Frosted Marshmallow Hot Cocoa

But it’s been topped. Shocked? You should be. But this seasonal Pop Tart flavor is truly something extraordinary. Frosted Marshmallow Hot Cocoa is what S’mores thinks it is, what it wants to be.

Pure marshmallow in chocolate pastry: it’s beautifully simple and works astoundingly well. The textural contrast between gooey marshmallow and crunchy pastry mimics the experience of a s’more better than the actual Frosted S’Mores Pop Tart does. And it’s not going to be here forever.

Frosted Marshmallow Hot Cocoa is not a Pop Tart flavor, it’s a zeitgeist. It’s a love letter to a generation of millennials raised on Pop Tarts and yearning for the simplicity of childhood snow days.

It’s a blatantly manipulative marketing strategy (get it now or never get it!) that you’ll actually want to get in on. It is a Pop Tart for our time. And your time would not be wasted in going out to hunt for a box of what we can only call the best Pop Tart flavor on the market.

When it comes to something as burdened with nostalgia as the Pop Tart, making a ranked list is tricky business. Because that’s the thing about Pop Tarts: at the end of the day, you’re going to love that flavor you fell in love with at first bite.

It doesn’t matter what the critics said or what anyone else thought — Banana Bread is going to be your favorite come hell or high water. So sure, we can make the controversial statement that Marshmallow Hot Cocoa tops Frosted Strawberry. We can rank these Pop Tart flavors any way we want.

But can we tell you which Pop Tart flavors are best? Heck no. Follow your heart!
