What Is the Most Expensive Burger in the World?

The title of most expensive burger in the world has changed hands several times over the past few years but the current holder is the aptly named Golden Boy. Created by Chef Robert Jan de Veen, of De Daltons Diner in Voorthuizen, The Netherlands, the Golden Boy officially entered the Guinness World Records in 2024 as the most expensive burger in the world.

Costing $5,967, the most expensive burger in the world features a patty composed of a mix of A5 grade Japanese Wagyu beef, the highest grade possible, and meltingly-tender short ribs. Its then topped with luxurious ingredients like truffle, caviar and king crab. The burger even has a sauce made from expensive whiskey and kopi luak coffee, a unique, rare and expensive variety of coffee.

The 10 Most Expensive Burgers in the World

1. The Octuple Bypass With Bacon, $43

It may not be absolutely the most expensive burger in the world but at a price of $43, the Octuple Bypass is not the cheapest option either. Rather than luxury ingredients, the Octuple earns its place on our list for its sheer size.

It’s one of the most famous menu options at The Heart Attack Grill, a hospital-themed restaurant in Las Vegas where giant servings are the order of the day.

To make the Octuple Bypass, eight ground beef patties are sandwiched together with 40 slices of bacon and oodles of melting cheese. Just beware that if you fail to finish your burger, the servers dressed as nurses will administer a light spanking with a special paddle.

2. Fifty Dollar Burger, $50

Served at the Wild Rye restaurant at Brasada Ranch in Oregon, the Fifty Dollar burger is affectionately referred to as ‘the burger to rule them all.’ It’s not close to the price of the most expensive burger in the world but this luxurious dish has quickly been gathering fans.

Unlike the official most expensive burger in the world, the $50 Burger is made from an Aberdeen Angus patty, which is coated in summer truffle aioli, smoked provolone and Bordelaise onions. It’s then given a foie gras torchon and a light sprinkling of gold dust.

3. Nurs-Et Burger, $55 to $65

Developed by internet Chef Salt Bae, whom you might recognize from a famous meme, the Nurs-Et burger has a ticket price of $55 to $65, depending on which type of fries you get as a side.

Although it’s not the most expensive burger in the world, it’s a lot pricier than your average bun. However, considering that the menu at the Nurs-Et Steakhouse is also home to an $800 Tomahawk steak and $850 wagyu striploin, the burger seems very reasonable.

In contrast to the most expensive burger in the world, the Nurs-Et burger is made from juicy smoked rib-eye steak coated with cheddar cheese and caramelized onion. It also comes with a side of herb-crusted fries or indulgent truffle and Parmesan fries, the latter of which cost around $10 extra.

4. The Grand Burger, $100

Like other additions in our look at the most expensive burger in the world, the Grand Burger at McGuire’s Irish Pub in Florida didn’t earn its place here solely because of the patty being made from an expensive type of meat.

As well as a patty made from filet mignon, which is custom chargrilled and served with merlot sauce, the Grand Burger comes with a side of caviar and a bottle of imported Moët Imperial Champagne to enjoy.

5. 1849 Burger, $110

Served at Gordon Ramsay Burger in London’s exclusive department store Harrods, The 1849 Burger (named after the year Harrods was founded) may not be the most expensive burger in the world but it’s certainly not for the faint of wallet.

Developed by Gordon Ramsay, who has released several viral recipes for burgers, this burger is one of the most expensive hamburger choices available anywhere and focuses on luxury ingredients.

The patty is made from A5-grade wagyu beef, which is then topped with slices of wagyu beef and pecorino. It’s then smothered in a truffle porcini aioli and a 12-year balsamic vinegar and served alongside moreish truffle Parmesan fries.

6. DB Royale Double Truffle Burger, $140

The original holder of the title of most expensive burger in the world, the DB Royale was invented by Daniel Boulud, a French chef working in New York. The original DB Royale Double Truffle Burger has now been replaced on the DB Bistro Moderne menu with the much more budget-friendly Yankee Burger, costing $29.

In contrast to this chef’s previous most expensive burger in the world, which was made from wagyu beef, the Yankee is made from Aberdeen Angus combined with horseradish aioli, caramelized onions and cheddar pickles. It’s very possible that the DB Royale could return in the future though.

7. Royale With Cheese, $150

This is one of the more unusual additions to our list investigating the most expensive burger in the world. Designed by the team at Japanese cocktail bar Sip & Guzzle, which now has a location in NYC, the Royale with Cheese is a playful take on a traditional cheeseburger.

Created by Michelin-starred Chef Mike Bagale, the Royale is made from high-grade wagyu beef tenderloin. It’s then layered with aged white cheddar and seasoned with a wasabi-infused barbecue sauce, rice vinegar and shio koji. This is sandwiched in slices of soft shokupan milk bread and presented in a golden box.

8. Le Burger Extravagant, $295

When it was unveiled in 2012, Le Burger Extravagant at Serendipity 3 in New York officially became the world’s most expensive hamburger. It can no longer boast this accolade but it’s still a popular choice among Serendipity regulars.

Only available for pre-order, Le Burger Extravagant is made of a collection of the most expensive foods. In common with the most expensive burger in the world, the patty is made from wagyu beef which is infused with white truffle butter. This is then enhanced with a fried quail egg, black truffles and melted James Montgomery cheddar cheese.

To complete the decadent creation, Le Burger Extravagant is served in a gold-dusted bun capped with a blini and caviar. To go alongside, you could also order the World’s Most Expensive Fries or a Luxe Milkshake but only if your stomach, and your bank balance, are up to it.

9. The Gold Standard Burger, $700

The star of the menu at the Drury Beer Garden in Philadelphia is the Gold Standard Burger. Like many other challengers for the most expensive burger in the world, this $700 treat features a patty made from A5-grade wagyu beef. It also contains black truffle, caviar, Wexford Irish cheddar and lobster flambéed in vintage Louis XIII cognac.

To add to the gastronomic experience, it’s served with fries drizzled with premium manuka honey from New Zealand and comes with a shot of Louis XIII cognac to wash it all down.

10. The Golden Boy, $5,967

As covered earlier, the title of the most expensive burger in the world goes to the Golden Boy. The over $5,000 burger features a range of luxurious ingredients, with the A5 grade Japanese wagyu and short rib patty being the star of the show.

Other high-end additions include a bun enriched with Dom Pérignon Champagne and covered in gold leaf and toppings like Beluga caviar, white truffle and king crab. It’s even accompanied by a side of onion rings cooked in a batter made from Champagne.

You can’t have a burger without a dash of sauce either, and the Golden Boy certainly doesn’t skimp — as you’d expect from the world’s most expensive burger! It features a barbecue sauce made from fine Scotch whiskey and kopi luak, some of the most expensive coffee in the world. All of this combines to give the burger an intense flavor and a very rich finish.

Most Expensive Burger in the World: Honorary Mentions

If you’ve searched for the most expensive burger in the world, you might have spotted the following options. Sadly no longer served, these were all previously considered the most expensive burger in the world.

The Glamburger, $1,770

The recipient of the Guinness World Record for most expensive burger in 2014, the Glamburger at London’s Honky Tonk Bar clocked in with a price tag of approximately $1,770. Interestingly, it was created as a PR stunt in collaboration with Groupon, with one winner being given the chance to try the extravagant burger for free.

This decadent burger was made with a Kobe beef patty and lobster poached in Iranian saffron. It also contained Beluga caviar, hickory-smoked duck egg and a bread bun shimmering with edible gold leaf. The burger was plated with a side of fries and more lobster.

Honky Tonk Bar is now closed but you’ll still find the Glamburger on many lists charting the best-loved and most expensive burgers in the world.

The Absolutely Ridiculous Burger, $2,000

We’ve already seen several former holders of the Guinness World Record for most expensive burger in the world but the Absolutely Ridiculous Burger from Mallie’s Sports Bar scoops the prize as the biggest commercially available burger ever.

So large that it took three people to lift it onto the table, the $2,000 Absolutely Ridiculous burger included 36 pounds of cheese, 30 pounds of bacon and 15 pounds of lettuce, along with beef patties that had a combined height of 3 feet.

Customers wishing to try the most expensive burger in the world were required to give 72 hours advance notice. It was served in-house or available for takeaway, as long as you had a car big enough to carry it!

Mallie’s has very recently closed but it’s possible that new management might consider reviving this take on the world’s most expensive burger in the future.

FleurBurger 5000, $5,000

Previously served at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas and another former official most expensive burger in the world, the FleurBurger 5000 was made from wagyu beef and topped with foie gras and truffle.

While this pricey burger contained some pretty luxe ingredients, it was actually the wine the burger was served with that made this the most expensive burger ever at the time. Alongside the burger, guests were able to enjoy a bottle of vintage Château Petrus 1995 which was served in Ichendorf Brunello glasses that diners could take home.
