Which is the Best McDonald’s Sauce?

With such a wide variety of menu options to enjoy with McDonald’s sauces, you can have a wide array of choices for a fun taste-testing session. Chicken McNuggets are one of the most popular McDonald's items, as well as the biggest draw for dipping sauces, but plenty of other menu selections pair equally well with the chain’s sauces and condiments.

Ranch, sweet and sour, barbecue and honey mustard are among the best McDonald’s sauces for salads, chicken nuggets, fries, burgers and chicken sandwiches. Tangy barbecue is another one of the most popular sauces for dipping. It’s a top seller if you’re comparing McDonald’s sauces ranked by flavor favorites. Kids tend to go with the tried-and-true ketchup for dipping nuggets or fries, while adults may enjoy the more complex flavors of honey mustard or tangy barbecue.

If you’re searching for types of hot sauce to complement the maple-syrup sweetness of the sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle on the McDonald's breakfast menu, give the barbecue sauce a try. Who Made McDonald’s Original Sauces?

The original McDonald’s dipping sauces included four flavors: sweet and sour, honey, hot mustard and barbecue. Hot mustard didn’t exactly catch on and was eventually phased out after a few years. The rest of these sauces — with their sweet, spicy and tangy flavor profiles — remain on the menu and have become popular with McNugget munchers around the world.

One of the original and most popular McDonald’s dipping sauces, the sweet and sour sauce, debuted with the chicken McNuggets menu item in 1983. It was created by McDonald's founder Ray Kroc and Jim Delligatti, a Pittsburgh franchise owner who created the sauce for the Big Mac. The rest of the original sauces were created by McDonald's.
