Looking for a unique cooking class? A masterclass on Gullah cuisine is a culinary experience not to be missed. Gullah-style cooking includes layers of ingredients, flavors and cooking techniques. Start off with a classic cornbread, baked to perfection in a cast iron skillet. Follow that up with a succulent shrimp pilau, with Carolina gold rice, along with a side of collard greens made with coconut milk for a rich and unique flavor. Finally, end your dive into Gullah cuisine with a traditional sweet potato pone.
Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.
Cast Iron Skillet Cornbread
With buttermilk, white cornmeal, unsalted butter, creamed corn and eggs
Shrimp Pilau
With shrimp, bacon, Carolina gold rice, shrimp stock, mirepoix and bell pepper
Coconut Collards
With Spanish onion, coconut milk, collard greens, coffee and garlic
Sweet Potato Pone
With sweet potatoes, cinnamon, nutmeg and butter

Chef Shelley’s nearly 30 years of professional experience as a successful chef combined with her extensive event planning experience have equipped her to be one outstanding host to a variety of dynamic, hands-on cooking classes. Chef Shelley has spent a great deal of time cooking for many celebrities and dignitaries as well as teaching an array of classes for both children and adults. She is also the former owner of popular restaurant in Brooklyn.
