What You’ll Do

Learn time-honored techniques for preparing authentic dumplings and more.

In this cooking class with Chef Li, you'll learn how to make Xiao long bao, a type of steamed bun typically filled with pork and a solid broth. The broth melts when cooked, creating a deliciously juicy filling.

Start by kneading and slicing your dough, then fill it with pork and seal neatly with a row of tiny pleats. Next, Chef Li will guide you through steaming your dumplings, which you'll enjoy alongside a tangy hot and sour soup and a smashed cucumber salad. Finish the meal with poached pears and crunchy rock sugar.

Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

This was such a fun class! My husband and I are so into soup dumplings and we walked away really being able to make them ourselves. And Chef Li was a fantastic host who made us feel welcome in her home and ready for a fun dinner party!

Four of us (two couples) took Chef Li's "Chinese Soup Dumplings" cooking class, and we LOVED IT! Chef Li is warm and engaging, fun, and clearly loves to to teach and even just to talk about cooking. We brought our own wine, and Chef Li provided everything else. We did the class at Chef Li's home, which is very nicely set up for small cooking classes like ours. The preparation was loads of fun, the food was delicious, a great time was had by all -- and we all agreed that we will take more cooking classes with Chef Li. Bottom line: you will NOT be disappointed!
