It was a bit confusing when we went to the meeting point. According to the guide, our names were not on the list, and he had never heard of Cozymeal. Eventually it was figured out. The guide was good, although I thought he might tell us more information as we walked around. The food was good, although a bit strange to have the last 2 meals and drinks in the same spot. I would rate it good, but not great. We still tipped the guide in person.
FAQS ABOUT COOKING CLASSES in Austin
How do food tours in Austin work?
Booking Austin food tours couldn’t be easier. Simply find an experience that piques your interest, set your group size and choose a date. When the time comes, you’ll meet your guide at a designated spot — be that on the North Loop, South Congress or East Austin — before following them to between four and six of the city’s most renowned foodie hotspots.
While experiences vary from tour to tour, they usually take between two and three hours, with most stops including menu items that have been pre-arranged by your guide. That means you won’t need to line up to order and can instead spend your time savoring the gourmet delights that await.
Do food tours accommodate vegetarians or other dietary needs?
Those with dietary restrictions or preferences will find that most stops on eating tours in Austin are able to provide suitable alternative menu items, however, this is never a guarantee and depends largely on the specific experience you book. You can see the menu items included by viewing the “tastings” tab on your chosen experience’s web page.
Of course, you could choose to skip certain courses that don’t align with your preferences and requirements. We suggest enlisting the help of our Concierge team. Working with you and a guide, they’ll be delighted to help curate an experience that’s sure to please your palate from start to finish.
Are food tours family-friendly?
Culinary tours in Austin can be enjoyed by the whole family, including the kids! However, it’s worth noting that most menu items on such tours have been curated by your guide to please adult palates. What’s more, these experiences often involve quite a lot of walking, which might render them unsuitable for youngsters with little legs.
Both the menu items and the amount of walking vary from tour to tour. For this reason, we always recommend reaching out to our helpful Concierge team for assistance in finding a tour that everybody can enjoy.
How much do food tours cost?
The cost to book foodie tours in Austin typically ranges between $59 and over $100 per person, however, this is just a guide. The actual price you’ll pay is likely to differ based on a few factors. These include the specific tour you book as well as the number in your party, since experience prices are tiered based on group size. Seasonality is another, with key dates like Labor Day generally commanding stronger demand and therefore higher prices.
For a rough idea of cost, you can view the starting per-person price on your chosen tour’s web page. Alternatively, you can reach out to our helpful Concierge team for more in-depth assistance.
Is there enough to eat on the tour?
The short answer here is yes. Don’t forget, the best food tours in Austin cover between four and six stops, each providing a taste of its most renowned foodie offerings. Via those, you’re likely to find yourself tucking into delicacies like melt-in-the-mouth brisket, breakfast tacos, Reuben sliders and flan cheesecake. You’ll also have plenty to drink, with local craft beers, sangria and even espresso martinis on the menu.
If there’s one thing we can guarantee when you take a food tour, it’s that you’re unlikely to go hungry. In other words, it's best to arrive at your tour with an appetite!
What happens if there’s bad weather?
Even in the summer, Austin has been known to see some serious downpours. But don’t worry — even if your weather app is showing rain clouds on your chosen date, you can rest assured that most food tours go ahead as planned, regardless of the weather.
Of course, you might need to cancel your experience for reasons other than the weather. We get it — life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes! If you do, be sure to check the cancellation policy on your specific experience’s web page. Just bear in mind that if you’ve booked for an experience that’s due to take place in the next 48 hours, the charge is non-refundable.
How much do you tip the food tour guide?
The amount that you tip your guide is entirely down to your discretion, but please know that when you book foodie tours in Austin, you are under no obligation whatsoever to give one. Having said that, we understand that you might still wish to. After all, it’s a great way to thank your guide for an unforgettable culinary experience, and one for which they’re sure to be incredibly grateful. If you would like to tip, again, the amount is up to you. If you’re unsure, we usually recommend between 10% and 25% of the total experience cost.
Are food tours worth it?
With so many benefits to culinary tours in Austin, the simple answer to this question is yes! They’re superb bonding experiences, whether you take them with family, friends or even colleagues. You’ll have the chance to forge life-long memories together over a shared love of great food, all while gaining fascinating insights along the way into the global traditions that have shaped the city’s thriving culinary scene.
Foodie tours are also perfect for celebrating life’s most special occasions. Whether you’re planning a birthday bash, an anniversary celebration or a day out for your hardworking team, everybody’s sure to have a blast.
